5 out of 5 stars Smart configuration at a good price.   July 22, 2010

(4.5 stars) You will be hard pressed to find a complete home PC for less than $500, all-in-one or otherwise, that performs better than this one. Not particularly fast or suitable for intense/3D gaming, but good enough to efficiently serve the average user. The dual core processor allows for multitasking and the NVIDIA Ion graphics will smoothly stream HD content. Both functions are rare in all-in-ones at this price point, which generally feature single core processors and lesser graphics solutions. You also get a 20" 1600 x 900 HD screen, draft "N" wifi, 30 fps webcam w/light sensor & mic, premium sound system, DVD Super Multi Drive, 5-in-1 card reader, 4 USBs, and HDMI. The hard drive partition some reviewers have complained about is actually an excellent design. ASUS obviously didn't figure users would be so inept as to not be able to send downloads to the D drive instead of the C (you are offered a choice), or to move it from one to the other. These are very simple tasks. The C drive is where viruses attack and it is a GOOD idea to keep your personal data out of there. If this is really a problem for you, free 3rd party software is available for easy repartitioning. The keyboard and mouse are a little flimsy, but minor drawbacks considering everything else offered. Real multimedia support is extremely rare for an entry level all-in-one, and this is the best value on the market. An extra GB of RAM can be had for around $20 and is recommended (32 bit will only read up to 3.2 GB total).

Drive C is only 40GB, and Drive D is 250GB. Who on theirs' end ever came up with this model and misleading description. I only kept it because we needed a system , any system for the project. it's too late to return now. So now I have about 10 kids' games installed on this system and it's already telling me it can not play the game ...disk is not recognized or corrupt or I have to uninstall the game...some files might be missing) ..it played it a week ago or yesterday. The drive is almost full. 40GB? My Windows XP 2000 notebook with oldest specs would be OK playing the same games. So, what else can I say. And, yes, last month it was $50 more. This month it's $50 less. what's the name of that game? very disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars A nice all-in-one for people that just surf and email   July 21, 2010

A perfect computer for those who only surf the internet, email, use office apps.

No this is not a gaming pc, as one can see by looking at the basic specs this is not high performance hardware. But if solitaire and facebook games are your style then you're set.

The hard drive partition is great, maybe would of went to 60gb for the OS but if you're going to be running a windows OS then you DEFINITELY want your programs and data on a separate partition. That is if want to keep them after the inevitable crash/virus that requires the standard microsoft re-install strategy. It is very simple to install a new program to a different drive, 99% of the installs give you the option of what path to install in. and of course saving pictures, videos, and downloads to another drive is as easy as not selecting c: as your save point. I can't recommend how much you should at all cost never save anything to the c: drive (OS drive) that you want to keep.

Includes everything a standard user needs and in a nice thin package; pleasant vibrant screen, very nice built in camera, memory card reader, etc. The HDMI input is a very nice feature so the monitor can double as a TV (if you use a separate box of course, no tuner card here)

The first few days, it did pretty good. The wireless keyboard works well but the wireless mouse that came with it never worked at all. I was slow while learning a new PC and a new OS at the same time. It arrived at my house on Feb 23. There were times when the screen would roll like ocean waves or the earth during an earthquake. The only way to stop it from rolling was to shut down and start over. Then it started started to freeze up, not just online but anything you might be doing. The freeze ups started to come more often. Always had to shut down to get out. Two days ago,on March 16, it started to freeze every two to three minutes. Impossible to do anything. At this time, the entire computer was freezing, including the start button. The only way to turn it off now is with the switch on the surge protector. Not a good thing to have to do at anytime. At this moment, it freezes immediatly on start up. I have not yet had it for 30 days. In my opinion, it is the worst piece of junk I ever owned. And to make a bad matter worse, Amazon.com shipped it to me without an invoice. I am trying to get that. All in all it's been a bad experience with the computer and Amazon.com.

I bought this computer primarly for the kids to get internet access, elearning and watching TV. And after 2 weeks feedback, I conclude that it's perfect for that.
Before I bought it I looked at the 2 reviews that were there and they are correct (thank you guys): this PC is not a super-killer beast, but it does the job fine. Beautiful screen, brights graphics, nice look (my wife who is on the Mac side was expecting a gray industrial box and was I think pleasantly surprised - and the kids as well). The price is right . It installed very easily (meaning, the kids - 9 and 7 - turned on the power, put batteries in the mouse and keyboard, and it went). It even recognised my printer without me installing drivers etc... The camera works very well, the loudspeakers and mic we attached as well. Only good surprises. ( I might have low expectations - my background is 20 years of usage of various unglorious corporate PCs and their "liberated" cousins that we bought back from our employers to use at home. So I might be easy to impress!)
Btw, it is not mentioned in the specs, but of course it comes with a wifi adapter. It also comes with Windows 7 (apparently there was debate on that at some stage).

My only grudge is that - as stated in another review - the disk partitioning is indeed insane. It goes beyond the problem of storing programs : because all the Windows users are in the C: partition, all the docs are piling in a small C: 40Gb and the D : 250 Gb partition sits unused.

Anyway, I rate it 5 stars, for less than $600 it's a good deal and here at home we all like it.
